Flamenco

Deborah Falzon is a Flamenco Dance Artist, Community Practitioner and Producer. Previously based in Seville, she has performed classical, fusion and contemporary flamenco pieces embedded in co-creation. Bringing together Maltese and Spanish Flamenco artists to perform across the Maltese Islands through the collaborative organisation of the first two Malta Flamenco Tours back in 2019, her recent performance experiences include: Walk of Shame (MUŻA 2023); Urban Symphonies, (Dance Festival Malta, 2023); Revoluzione (Polimorfa Festival, 2023); UNight, (Notte Bianca 2022, Malta); Desiderium (Dance Festival Malta, 2022); and Żal, (Refugee Week Malta 2022). With a background in Transcultural Counselling, she shares flamenco, dance and rhythm workshops with people from various backgrounds within educational, vocational and community settings through numerous collaborations with artists, educators and organisations. As co-founder and co-director of Dance Beyond Borders, a foundation that unites people through the power of the arts; she is participating in the Residency and Performance Project 'Echoes of Roots: Uncharted Routes - a Collective Journey towards a Decolonized Migration Narrative' supported by the European Festivals Association's European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists - EFFEA. Having recently completed a Masters in Flamencology with Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, Barcelona, researching how flamenco dance can be used as a vehicle of empowerment amongst women, she guest lectures at the Dance and Music Departments within the School of Performing Arts, University of Malta. Deborah’s latest endeavour has been to explore how dance can exist on a continuum between art and activism to inspire people into compassion, and ultimately nurture connection.
